FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about how notary visits work. Still unsure about something? Call (209) 555-0147 — we're glad to help.
Getting started
Can you notarize my documents online or over video?
No. California does not yet allow its notaries to perform online or remote (video) notarizations. Every notarization we do is in person — we simply travel to wherever you are.
Can you tell me which document or notarization I need?
No — a notary public cannot give legal advice or decide what kind of notarization you need. Please bring the document your attorney, title company, or institution has prepared, and we will carefully complete the notarial act.
Who needs to be present, and will I need witnesses?
Everyone whose signature is being notarized must be present with valid photo ID. Some documents also require one or two witnesses — check your document, or ask the institution that gave it to you, and let us know so we can plan ahead.
Estate & senior documents
Do you come to hospitals and care facilities?
Yes. Visiting people where they are is the heart of what we do. We notarize at private homes, hospital bedsides, hospice, and assisted-living and skilled-nursing facilities throughout Calaveras County.
What estate and senior documents can you notarize?
Common ones include durable and healthcare powers of attorney, living trusts and trust-transfer deeds, advance healthcare directives, and affidavits. You bring the documents your attorney or institution prepared; we handle the notarization.
Everyday notary work
What everyday documents do you notarize?
Acknowledgments, jurats and sworn statements, copy certifications, DMV and vehicle-title transfers, parental and travel-consent letters, and structured-settlement or disability paperwork, among others.
Your appointment
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Please have ready: a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID for each person signing; the document you need notarized, still unsigned (the law requires us to watch you sign it); any witnesses your document calls for; and payment. Not sure about something? Just ask when we schedule.
Do you offer same-day or after-hours appointments?
Call and ask — we do our best to accommodate urgent and after-hours requests, especially for time-sensitive estate, hospital, and family matters. The sooner you call, the more options we can offer.
What happens during the appointment?
We meet you at your chosen location, check each signer's photo ID, watch each person sign, and complete the notarial certificate and our journal entry. Most single-document signings take only a few minutes.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
California law sets the notary fee at $15 per signature. Because Calaveras County is spread out, we add a simple flat travel fee based on your zone — and you will always know the full cost before we arrive. See our Pricing page for the zone schedule.
Why is the travel fee separate from the $15 notary fee?
California caps the notary fee at $15 per signature — that part is the same statewide. The travel fee is a separate, clearly labeled charge for coming to you. We never roll travel into the per-signature fee or charge more than $15 for the notarial act itself.
